The New Year’s Eve Bash of 05-06 was extravagant, to say the least. Senior Kendall Christian, class president and head of the student school event planning board, had been determined from the start to make it a special evening, since it was his last New Year’s at Bowie High. A band had been hired for the night, Dogs of War, a rising group from Massachusetts, and the entire gymnasium had been decorated this time, instead of just the cafeteria, which had been the location for many other school events and dances.
The ceiling was hung with small snowflakes and stars, and “Happy New Year” banners were draped across all three entrances to the gym. The bleachers were retracted to the walls, the basketball hoops pulled up, and a midnight blue cloth, sprinkled with silver tinsel and glitter, was flung down over the gym floor. A makeshift stage had been set up on one end, and the sound system normally used for announcing games was now set up for the best sound possible for the evening.
And yes, the issue of refreshments had now been dealt with. Kendall and Mihajlo, class vice-president, had spent the day before sampling various punches, and had come to agreement over three different varieties, resulting in not one but three punch tables, each graced with a different flavor of punch that was actually pleasant to drink. There were also cookies, decorated in blue and white icing, and crackers, cheese, and little sandwiches. It promised to be an enjoyable night for most if not all of those who attended.

Kendall stood in the largest door of the gym, looking over it all, just moments before it began. The CD he’d had them put on, since the band wasn’t scheduled to arrive for another half hour, was playing over the loudspeakers, the current song, Enigma’s “Mea Culpa” echoing through the gym. Kendall sighed. He was going to miss this. In just a week, he’d be beginning his last semester here at Bowie, and then he was headed to college. That was, he reflected, smiling, what tonight was about...celebrating endings and new beginnings. He turned the key in the switch that turned the lights off, and the lighting which had been arranged for the evening cast the whole gym in blue-hued light. ((Now you can! )

Post by Mihajlo–Theora–Ivana–Tesla on Dec 30, 2005 21:24:57 GMT -5
Theora had, for once, come to a dance without Mihajlo escorting her. He wasn't there at the moment, he had dropped by his best friend Tesla's house to drag Tesla out of his reclusive behavior and make him come to the dance. Judging by the determined look on Mihajlo's face, it wouldn't be long before he succeeded. Theora just hoped his plan wouldn't involve any suggestions that she and Tesla would be at the dance together. She had only met him once, and she had already begun to wonder what he and Mihajlo could possibly have in common.
Ivana was also alone, and this time there were no tables for her to sit down and lurk at. There were a few chairs along the wall, but she wasn't about to take one of those. She spotted Theora, and frowned. The two hadn't exactly hit it off well the first time they'd met, but now that Ivana knew she and Theora weren't fighting over Mihajlo, it was probably a good idea to diminish her number of enemies if she could. She followed Theora to the punch table.
Theora spotted her just as she caught up with her, and sighed.
"If you're looking for Mihajlo, he's not here yet."
"I'm not." Ivana said. "I wanted to apologize."
"Oh?" Theora raised an eyebrow.
"Yes." Ivana ducked her head quickly. "I was a bit of a...oh, what is the word...anyhow, I wasn't very polite the other day, and I'm sorry."
Theora gave her a half quizzical smile, and shrugged.
"Thanks," she said. "It's all right. I wasn't the nicest myself."
A moment of silence descended, then Theora spoke again.
"Anyhow, Mihaj and Tesla should be here soon."

Post by Dakota - Adrien - Colin - Nao on Dec 30, 2005 21:32:18 GMT -5
Adrien noticed with some relief that he wasn't the first person in the room. That was always somewhat awkward. The room was far from crowded, though, and he spotted Jessica after only a moment. Making his way through glitter and tinsel on the floor, he went to stand beside her, and smiled. "Hey. Brought you something." It was a very small white rose, adorned with baby's breath and a few small green leaves, and was attached to a small hair pin. "Thought you might like it." --- Colin didn't see Izzy, so he went to taste the punch instead. Well, there were three of them...green, blue and red. Since the red at the last dance had been somewhat inedible, he tried the blue, and to his surprise, found it much to his liking. "Not bad." he commented. --- Dakota met Kyan's eyes almost as soon as she stepped in. Smiling, she let her white knit shawl fall to her elbows as she crossed the room to see him. "Hoped you'd be here." she said, raising her voice a bit over the music.

Sam saw Adrien come towards them and signalled it as her time to check out the punch and give her friend some space. She headed to a table and tried the punch, nodded in exceptance at the taste.
Jessica stared at the rose."Adrien, I love it.Thank you!" shesaid fingering it. She placed it in her hair and gave him a kiss.
Kyan, noticeing Dakota gave Jack a look to go! Run off! Taking this look Jack joined Sam at one of te punch tables.
"Hey. Me too. You look lovely by the way" Kyan said to Dakota with a smile at her.

Post by Ember | Qaylan | Matt | Lanna on Dec 30, 2005 21:40:35 GMT -5
December's brown eyes looked around the room as she walked in. Wow, she thought, the dances at my old school weren't this big. But then, Bowie High was a bigger school than her last one. She was dressed in an almost floor-length wine-colored strapless red dress, and carried a light scarf/shawl to match. ~ Qaylan leaned against the wall in one corner, telling himself repeatedly that he was not, absolutely not going to hook up with the kind of people who might spike the punch bowl, turn the lights off, or any such thing. That was what had started his troubles in the first place, the troubles he was trying to overcome now. ~ Matt had hoped that the girl he'd met a day earlier might be at the dance tonight, but so far he saw no sign of her. Well, perhaps she'd show up in a bit. At any rate, he and Lanna could always chat about whatever until they each found something more interesting to do.
Lanna was thinking about the same thing, and poked Matt in the shoulder. "We can be bored together," she suggested. "until you find a smart girl to hit on."

Adrien grinned. "Glad you like it." He listened to the music for a moment, then laughed. "I wonder if they know what the words to this mean." he said. The song was in French, and while his knowledge of the language was limited to say the least, he could decipher some of it. --- Dakota smiled, and looked at the floor quickly. "Thanks." she said, blushing slightly. "

"Yeah" Jessica laughed also.
Kyan continued smiling."So, enjoying the party?" he asked her.
