The Vail house is not large, it resides in the country part of town, and is just big enough for the family to live there comfortably. The upstairs has four bedrooms and two baths, with Keal, Cai, and a guest having their rooms at one end of the house, and their parents having their room at the other. On the first floor there is a kitchen, a family room, a dinning room, and a bath. The house is rarely clean as the family believes that a messy house shows love. The door is always open, and the family always welcoming in people.

Meriwether Locke didn't notice when the car stopped in front of the house. She had her headphones on, and the volume cranked to levels definitely not safe for human hearing, and was far too interested in Disturbed's yelling to see or care that they'd arrived. It took her new foster mother's turning around and raising her voice slightly to get Meri's attention, and Meri let out an exasperated sigh. She shoved the headphones off. "Okay, okay. Sheesh. You don't have to yell." Rolling her eyes heavenward, she pulled open the door, and slung her backpack more than a bit more violently than was necessary over her shoulder, looking at her new home as she did so. "Look, Jay. We're living in a crackerbox." It wasn't that Meri intended to be mean...no, wait, it was. She didn't want to be here, not in the smallest sense of the word. It had been her opinion that she and Jay had been through enough to be on their own, and even if she'd had to settle for being under his guardianship for the next three years, that would have been fine with her. But the state had refused to grant them their special circumstances petition, so the two of them were stuck in the foster system, at least until Jay turned eighteen. Meri let out another sigh, and went to the back of the car to get her suitcase out of the trunk.

Jason Locke only nodded at his sister's comment about the house, he really didn't care. It was better than they had been in, and since he wasn't about to get guardianship of his sister anytime soon they weren't in a position to argue. His eyes lingered on the house as their new foster mother,Sara, headed for the door. Their faster father, Carl, was helping Meri get their suitcases out of the trunk and Jay shrugged going to help.
"Cai, Keal!" came the loud shout through the doorway. "Come meet your new foster siblings!" Sara called.
Grabbing his suitcase and hefting it up Jay exchanged a glance with his sister. He hadn't been told there were other children in the house. God he hoped they weren't little kids, he couldn't stand little kids. "Well, let's get this over with," he whispered to his sister as he started forward.
He stepped inside just in time to see a girl rushing down the stairs excitedly. Behind her came the lazy pace of an older boy. The girl skidded to a stop at the bottom of the stairs and she smiled before jumping forward and giving Jay a hug. The boy watched rolling his eyes.
The boy's green eyes surveyed the two Lockes and after a moment he turned to his mother, "I thought we were only getting one kid? Did you pick the other up off the street?"

Meri let out an indignant 'foosh' of breath. "Welcome to the house, Meri. Glad to see you, Meri. What the hell are you doing here, Meri, we only want your brother." she muttered under her breath. "Nice to meet you too." she said, dropping her suitcase. At least the kids had personality, though, she had to admit. They could have been mindless zombies or bratty toddlers. That would have been a nightmare, she tried to console herself.
"Where am I supposed to put my stuff?" she wondered aloud, waving at her suitcase as if they weren't clear on what her 'stuff' was. "I mean, I can sleep right here, I guess. Since I came off the street, after all." She gave the boy a dirty look.

"Keal!" Sara snapped, "This is not how we raised you!" Keal mumbled a sorry, but rolled his eyes when his mother wasn't looking. Cai on the otherhand was giggling quietly to herself, she couldn't help it.
"There was a mix up in the system and they had us signed up to take two kids. And we don't find that a problem, so we did," Carl explained to his children patiently.
Meri's question snapped Cai out of her giggling state and she glanced at the girl. Where would they put her? Jay on the other hand just shook his head shooting a semi-glare at the boy, Keal, for his unnecessary comment. "She can have wherever you were going to put me," Jay informed the family. His voice was low and emotionless, "I can crash on the couch or something."
Cai just smiled and shook her head, "She can stay in my room and I'll move in with Keal for a bit. We don't really need our study, right Keal? We can just clean that out and turn it into her room!" Keal stared at his sister blankly before blinking in surprise. She was giving him a look that suggested argueing was out of the question, and he nodded dumbly.

Meri sighed again. She did that a lot, that sigh of exasperation. "I don't want to inconvenience anyone." she said, more than a trace of sarcasm evident in her tone. "If Jay sleeps on a couch, I do too." Her voice was determined, and there was a stubborn glint in her eye, suggesting that she wasn't going to back down on the issue. Though she would never tell, she was somewhat grateful to Carl Vail for the comment about them not finding her and Jay a problem. She was pretty sure they wouldn't feel that way long, though. Nobody had yet managed to put up with the Lockes for very long.
"I can help clean out the room." she offered, summoning every ounce of politeness and willpower she had to utter those seven words.

Cai rolled her eyes at the Lockes, "No one is sleeping on the couch." Her brown eyes held stubbornness and she gestured to the upstairs, "We had a room set aside expecting one new kid, he can take that." With a small smile she added to Meri, "You can take my room and I'll bunk with Keal for a while. Just hope you don't mind anime."
"Sounds good," Sara said. She motioned to her husband, "We'll start dinner. Cai, Keal I trust you'll make Meri and Jay feel welcome." Without another word the two adults left, heading for the kitchen.
"Alright then," Keal said quietly. "Upstairs we go." He didn't wait for permission, he just picked up Meri's suitcase and started up the stairs.
Jay on the other hand, had fallen into his own thoughts, he was busy examining the house and his new foster family. They seemed normal, seemed as if they would get sick of him and Meri after about two weeks. Sighing, he decided perhaps it was best if he didn't unpack fully.
